MEET THE BAND
Laurina and Serapha

The band Laurina was formed in 1995, and it's memebers include Laurina and Serapha. The two sisters are originally from Calabria, Italy. Serapha was born in Calabria while Laurina was born in the States. When Serapha was two years old the family decided to move to western New York. Laurina was born two months after they arrived.

Musically, the girls were greatly encouraged by their father, as he himself had his own band in Italy. An accomplished accordian player his music often translated well to the piano. Laurina and Serapha remember one Christmas when their father played the piano for hours. Music filled the entire house as the girls sat and listened intently.

Laurina and Serapha have recorded four CD's to date: Angels, Melodic Torment, Totally Techno, and the Compilation CD. Although Angels was released in 2000, it is both a collection of their early recordings and recent recordings. The title track, Angels, however, was recorded in 2000. Melodic Torment 2001 is Laurina's second release and features all new songs (22 tracks!). Laurina's third release, Totally Techno, is the band's first full-length techno CD and features remixes from both Angels and Melodic Torment. The CD also includes one previously unreleased track, "Andromeda." The Compilation CD features songs from all of the CD's. Most of Laurina's recordings are based on poems written by Serapha.

Serapha, writes and plays most of the music. She has used dozens of her poetry writings in their musical recordings. Serapha never limits herself in her writings. She writes what she feels openly and on a broad range of topics. Many of Serapha's poems can be read in the poetry section of this website.

Laurina sings all lead vocals and backup vocals, but does write and play some music. Laurina's style can be described as "pop opera." She sings in both pop and opera styles. Her vocals are eerie, solemn and opera-esque.

The style of the band Laurina is very diverse incorporating pop, opera, techno, ambient, classical and instrumental sounds into their recordings. Their music is very spiritual and haunting.
